I’ve been working on this project for years, perhaps unknowingly
from the moment I first started to understand what Biblically, Christianity means.
Originally, I didn’t realize why my search kept going back to the Biblical book
of Genesis. Slowly the realization sunk into this thick head of mine, that the
book of Genesis is the foundation of the whole Bible. It is the beginning, the
why, the first promise, so on and so forth. In time, I became convinced that since
Genesis is the foundation, then allegorically just like a house with a faulty
foundation, a Christian with a faulty concept of Genesis. . . Especially, speaking
of the first 12 chapters. All of this lead to an in depth study of those first
chapters, then to a desire to share what I had learned with others, who like me,
had probably heard many of the same, "We can’t knows . . .", "Life is too short
to worry about its", and all the other "Yada, yada, yadas. . .", that had kept
me for so long from searching out the answers for myself. I came to accepting
Biblical Christianity by first comparing religions, what they had to say about
different things and what the Bible had to say about the same. These comparisons
included many "Christian" religions. They all had their differences, and similarities.
Only the Bible itself seemed to stand on its own, different, logically making
sense in such a simplistic way that; it’s very simplicity made it hard to explain
to a world that expects only complications. Anyway, my quest for knowledge led to the study of Christian apologetics, including but not limited to the study of creationism. Early on in my studies, I came across many references to a book called THE TWO BABYLONS, by the late Reverend Alexander Hislop, considered a classic of Christian apologetics. I first read the book out of the public library. Being almost one hundred years old, and containing much more information than most books written today, not to mention the skimpy knowledge that I had concerning ancient history and mythology, the book took me quite a while to read the first time. I’ve read the book, perhaps five times since (perhaps more). Compiling notes that could comprise the length of most books all on their own. This is where the seed that will one day become the story of Nvard found its first germination. To begin with I hadn’t a clue of why I was spending so much time researching, only that it was interesting and something . . . .
In time the idea developed. At first it consisted of a let’s see where this leads. Developing into thoughts of doing a children’s book(s) on those first generations before, or after the Flood, complete with illustrations. Then the idea of "the Seeker", reflecting my own search for Truth, but in a different setting, circumstances, etc. took shape. As a teenager my favorite books had been fantasy stories. I read everything I could get my hands on back then to escape reality, but especially Sword and Sorcery, and anything with a feel of antiquity, or otherworldliness. My favorites included Andre Norton and her ‘Witch World’ series, and Anne McCaffrey’s, ‘Dragon Riders of Pern’ stories. Needless to say, when Biblical studies clashed with some of the elements of my favorite books it caused me some distress. I made my choice, and the Bible won. Later, reading Hislop’s book, would eventually lead to the planning of a book, and the writing of HERITAGE OF TRUTH. Ever since first reading THE TWO BABYLONS, the thought of how fascinating a fictional story based on the earliest parts of Genesis has remained with me. A story that has the same atmosphere of wonder that "other worldly" and ancient historical tales have, based on legend and a Christian perspective. . . . The novel seems to be crying to be written. Now, if I could only finish putting the pieces together into some form of comprehensive whole. I'm not foolish enough to believe that I will ever figure out what exactly happened at Babel, before or after. Nor, do I envision ever knowing for sure when Nimrod, or anyone else lived in relation to what happened at the tower, and only studied guesses can be made at how ancient religions formed. Still to make this story work, I've got to come up with a cognizant picture, whether it be what really happened or not, of the era of the Biblical Nimrod, and his legacy.
![DID YOU KNOW?
That Easter may be an alternate form of the name of the pagan goddess Ishtar. But is this important?
